Lords vote to remove clauses from welfare reform bill

On January 27th, the House of Lords voted to remove Clauses 13 and 14 from the Welfare Reform and Work Bill which would cut the money people on Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) Work Related Activity Group (WRAG) and the limited capability for work element of Universal Credit receive. In current payment terms, this would represent a reduction of almost £30 a week (from £102.15 to £73.10) for recipients.

The announcement has been welcomed by Richmond Group members.

Richmond Group expands membership

As 2015 draws to a close and we are looking ahead to the coming year, we are very pleased to announce that our membership is increasing from the ten current members to include two additional charities: the Alzheimer’s Society and Arthritis Research UK.

As a coalition of leading health and social care organisations in the voluntary sector working together as a collective voice to better influence health and care policy and practice, our two new members will ensure that we are able to better represent the people living with a broader range of long term health conditions.

Launch of new website

We have now launched our brand new website. Along with a complete refresh of the design and layout, we also have a new publications section, updated profiles of our members and a journal, where you can keep updated on the activity and thoughts of the Richmond Group. We also have a new contact us page, through which you can direct any comments and questions.

Blogs published on this page do not necessarily reflect the ‘official’ view of the Richmond Group, but offer the opportunity to exchange opinions from members or other colleagues.

Letter on public health cuts published in the Times

Together with a wide range of other organisations from the health and care sector, the Richmond Group decided to log their concerns about the planned cuts to the already very small public health budget announced recently.

This is the letter that was published in the Times:

Sir - We believe the proposed £200m of cuts to public health budgets would be harmful both to the health of the population in England and to long-term efforts to reduce cost pressures.
